Scrunchies, mom jeans, and fanny packs. Oh, yes, they’re back, and here to stay. Most adolescents mocked the mere thought of ever wearing a scrunchie again, but this year all the trends that one may have thought were a thing of the past are back. One may wonder why and how such trends are making a comeback in fashion.
“The real reason these fashion trends always return is that designers look to the past and see what worked and what didn’t,” according to Bethany Mayfield from styleflair.com. “The designers use what worked and tweak it a little to make it more modern, that’s why people re-fall in love with it, because it usually is more modern and comes with more options, like color or pattern.”
Proving its popularity in today’s fashion, scrunchies seem to be one of the trendiest accessories. Worn by many in the 90s, the scrunchie presented an easier way to tie and hold back thicker hair than the average hair tie could. The trend faded and was criticized for years but slowly regained attention when Hillary Clinton started wearing them in public. Even celebrities have been following the fad. The scrunchie is being worn as a cute high pony, fashionable top knot, and bracelet.
Another trend that’s making its way into today’s fashion is the fanny pack. The predictions of many people have been proved wrong, as this trend has demonstrated its popularity. The fanny pack has made a remarkable stance in today’s fashion, because it’s comfortable and easy. Because it allows easy access without having to take it off and prevents suffering from shoulder pain, people are convinced that the fanny pack is better than the average purse. Many people mock fanny pack; however, its convenience exemplifies why it’s such a popular trend. So, get in style, and get a fanny pack!

Mom jeans? Upon hearing such words, one usually thinks, “Ew” or, “What even are they?” But they’re a triumph in today’s fashion. Equipped with an extra high waist that reaches the belly button, pleats in the front, and a baggy, oversized look, mom jeans have made their way back into society’s wardrobes. While mom jeans’ popularity had originally diminished due to the association with the stereotypical mom, who would wear them due to the extra amount of coverage they give, they’ve made a comeback due to their comfy and cozy, yet cute and fashionable, look.
