Although Ms. Hannah Salnaitis is new to North Penn, she is bringing culture and a story that will impact her students for years to come.

Some teachers at North Penn High School come here from college or another school nearby. Some teachers even come from different states, but Hannah Salnaitis had a slightly different path to North Penn.

She is coming from 3175 miles away, bringing a unique view to the high school.

“Before teaching, I was living in Yucatan, Mexico where I was previously for 5 years. I lived in a rural village about an hour from the city and really immersed myself in the Mayan culture and language. I led community outreach with the support of my church here in the United States and was able to build classrooms for the local community there,” Salnaitis stated.

Yucatan is a state in Mexico off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Though it is far from North Penn, it has a beautiful culture and rich history that has helped contribute to Salnaitis’s inspiration to teach.

I have always had a passion for languages and a passion for working with kids of all ages. It is a very rewarding profession that reminds me on a day-to-day basis that as a teacher I have the opportunity to motivate, empower, and inspire my students through teaching.

“I have always had a passion for languages and a passion for working with kids of all ages. It’s a very rewarding profession that reminds me on a day to day basis that as a teacher I have the opportunity to motivate, empower and inspire my students through teaching,” Salnaitis said.

Salnaitis lived in Yucatan, Mexico for 5 years. While she was there, she taught native Spanish speakers English. Yet, over time she picked up Spanish as another language. She has gone from teaching English to Spanish speakers and to bringing Spanish to English speakers.

“The Spanish language and culture is so rich and has so many different layers to it that there is always something new to learn about! My personal experience opened up my eyes to this realization and I am always excited to share and teach my students the same,” Salnaitis said.

Despite those 5 years in Mexico, she is no foreigner to this area and has many close connections. She grew up in Bucks County and graduated from C.B. South, so North Penn was previously a rival to her. But now, she is dedicated to bringing the school anything she can and commented that she loves her experience at the school so far.

When she is not found in room B122 teaching Spanish, Ms. Salnaitis is found taking pictures almost anywhere, as one of her passions lies in photography.

“Outside of the classroom I am a professional photographer! I love to take street photos and edit them to give them a cinematic feel. I also do engagement, maternity and family shoots. I also love the outdoors. Whether it be hiking or cycling I love to explore new trails” Salnaitis said.

Ms. Salnaitis envisions her time here by getting involved in clubs such as the Christian club, Spanish club, and Badminton club. She also hopes to create many memories with her students and build great relationships with her fellow staff members.

“I envision myself creating many memories with my students and building positive relationships with staff. I envision my time at North Penn as an unforgettable one,” Salnaitis said.
