As construction continues, we are officially able to see and access the second large step in what will be a new North Penn High School. The second floor of K-Pod has officially reopened and looks better than ever.
As you walk through the hallway from the left, you first see a couch with outlets all along the bottom which is a perfect recharging space for students both literally and figuratively. Students can relax and charge Chromebooks at the same exact time. The next thing you will see is the range of studying spaces. Very similar to the third floor, there are small tables lined with cushioned seats on each side. It is a very good design to have something new for students and to spread out gathering spaces within the school.
After passing these chairs you see the classrooms. There are 8 classrooms all designated to math on the left and right sides of the hallway. The classrooms are large with very large pretty windows at the end. They all have the TV classrooms they have had for years now along with two walls that function as whiteboards leaving space for many different things to be written at once.
In the classrooms, there is also a completely new seating concept seen also in the third floor renovation. Every classroom now has nice blue chairs with armrests and comfortable plastic backs. One fun fact about the chairs that many students did not initially realize is they allow the ability to sit completely backwards in them by putting your legs through the back and leaning over the front of the chair. Along with new chairs, each classroom has a few randomly dispersed standing desks. They can be adjusted to fit any height of person if they want to stand during class instead of sit.
The walls are all lined with very both encouraging and aesthetic wallpapers. Some use quotes like “Be the main character of your story.” Others just have the North Penn logo. The pop of light blue color on the walls is something completely new.
The one thing that has not changed and I would say is actually a little bit disappointing. The bathrooms are exactly the same as they were 10 months ago at the end of last school year. The bathrooms in K-Pod were always the nicest but I wish they still would have gotten a little upgrade.
Overall, K-Pod has faced a humongous glow up and the North Penn Community should be excited to see what comes in the next few years, because this is a very promising early show of progress.
