TOWAMENCIN – The North Penn Knights ice hockey team has had profound success in the past couple years. Due to that success, they have been granted with the biggest reward a high school hockey team can ask for.
The Knights, who just won back-to-back flyers cup championships in 2025 and 2026, currently play at Hatfield Ice in Colmar, PA. They share the rink with many other teams, some being Souderton, CB West, CB East, and Pennridge.
With all these schools sharing the same rink comes a lot of troubles. Scheduling can be an absolute pain not just for the Knights, but for Hatfield Ice as well. But, the Knights now find themselves in luck.
North Penn High School recently has been under heavy renovations in multiple parts of the school, and they are constantly trying to budget everything to the exact penny. In the district’s most recent budget meeting, they noticed something they hadn’t caught before. They have completely underspent on their budget and have way more money left over than previously anticipated.
The board immediately started brainstorming on what to do with this extra money they discovered. Most schools would start to think of ways to involve it into the education department, but for North Penn being one of the biggest schools in the state, they have other priorities.
North Penn brings so many different sports opportunities and with their huge student population they are always encouraging students to get out and support each other at games. For all the teams that play on school grounds, it’s so much easier for their friends and classmates to walk right outside and go to their games.
For one team though, that isn’t the case. The North Penn ice hockey team has brought their program back to life as of late, and the one thing they have been missing is that extra support from students.
With the extra money to spend, and the ice hockey team being so successful, North Penn officially announced the beginning of the process to build an on campus home ice hockey rink.
Throughout the renovation process the courtyard on the backside of the school has been completely wiped out. Many people wondered why for the longest time but now they know.
Construction is set to go underway within the next few weeks with plans of it opening for the Knights 2026-2027 season. That may seem quick, but North Penn has gone all in hiring the top end construction companies and making it all hands on deck.
New things come with cool new features. North Penn is proud to announce that one of the features inside their rink will be a hot tub for fans to watch the game in. Every fan who purchases a ticket each game will be entered into a raffle for a chance to watch the game from the hot tub.
The new arena will also feature snack stands such as Chickies n’ Petes, Chipotle, and even a Chick Fil’ A that stays open on Sundays. One of the biggest features will be the Ghost energy lounge. Recently North Penn partnered with Ghost Energy in the efforts to keep the students more involved in school.
Unfortunately, Coach Vaitis of the Knights was unable to comment on this amazing next step for his team as he is so taken away by the fact his team is being awarded with this, he is left completely speechless.
Hopefully this marks the next step in Knights sports programs and the best teams getting the new facilities they need and deserve.
