Samiha Alam: Vice President

Why are you running for this position?

“In school, I always tried so hard to fit in. I was afraid of being different or people not liking me. Whatever the new trend was, I was the first person to participate. I wanted people to like me so bad, it was at the expense of my true self-identity. However as time went on, I began to realize that how I view myself matters more than what others may think of me. So, I’m running for vice president because I want to speak for the students who may feel like they don’t always fit in or belong. I want to be someone the students can relate to. If elected as vice president, I will try my absolute hardest to make sure every sophomore at North Penn feels like they have a place to express themselves freely; every student should feel welcomed and at home when at North Penn High School.”

What qualities do you have that make you the best candidate?

“I am the best candidate for vice president not because I get good grades, participate in many clubs, or because I volunteer.  I am the best candidate because I am open to any and all ideas. Growing up in a diverse community, I have learned to see things from different points of view and be understanding. I want to make sure my peers do not feel like their opinion is invalid because they do not agree with the majority; I am ready to listen to all ideas.  In addition, I consider myself to be very hardworking and maybe even a perfectionist. I will always give 100% into anything I am doing, and will never promote anything I am not completely satisfied with.  I also like to think of myself as a creative person. I want to be able to, with the help of the rest of the officers and class cabinet, plan events that everyone will enjoy and look forward to. And finally, I will always have in mind the best interest of my peers before making any decision that could affect the class of 2023.”

What is one main goal you have for the 2020-2021 school year?

“My main goal for the 2020-2021 school year is to bring back a sense of normalcy to the students. For many, this year is their first year at the high school and due to the COVID – 19 pandemic, things have been a little crazy. Their first year at North Penn has been interrupted, and the normal learning environment has been halted. I know many are struggling with this new change, as I am also still getting used to everything. I know it may be hard since we are returning to an all-virtual setting, but with your help, I will work hard to improve this year for all.”
