Mr. Mark Urmson is wearing many hats this school year. At Penndale, Urmson teaches Exploring Music, Media Arts, Theater Arts, and is the director of Penndale Theater. And now, at North Penn High School he teaches Music Tech 1, Music Production, and Guitar 1.
Going from the high school to the Penndale everyday is certainly not easy.
“It’s a challenge.. It’s definitely a shame that I’m not there all day,” Urmson said.
Urmson’s inspirations to become a music teacher started with being a student. He first started playing the saxophone to get out of classes he didn’t like.
“I took my first lesson, came back a week later and could basically play the entire book already,” Urmson shared.
Urmson’s favorite parts of being a music teacher are being able to teach in a district where the kids can actually learn and play music. He likes being the person that gives them that experience that he didn’t have.
“I think it’s cool, especially now, working with the Marching Knights and teaching here at the High School,” Ursmon added.
As a student in his class at Penndale, I had the opportunity to play the drums with Urmson. His class really let me express myself and he helped me move forward in my music career. I would recommend anyone who is interested in music to take his class. He has the experience to further excel anyone in.
