Future Plans

“This fall I will be attending Penn State University and will be studying either computer engineering or material science and engineering.”

Favorite NPHS memory

“My favorite memory at North Penn was being invited to compete at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in both 2018 and 2019.”

Favorite Classes

“All of the classes that I took in the Engineering Academy were my favorite. The way the classes were run was different than any classes I took before. There were no tests, you could correct all of your assignments, and you were able to do many different hands-on projects. My favorite class out of them all was my senior year Engineering Design and Development class. This class allowed us to conduct real research that most people aren’t able to participate in until graduate school. All of the cases were so enjoyable, and allowed me to learn about my passion for engineering.”

Favorite Teacher

“My favorite teacher is a tie between Dr. Voicheck and Mr. Boyer. Dr. Voicheck was the first engineering teacher I ever had, and I was lucky enough to have him three times throughout my time at North Penn. He helped me discover how much I loved working with electronics and programming and was always there to answer my countless questions. Mr. Boyer was my senior year engineering teacher and is someone I have the utmost respect for. Mr. Boyer built the EDD curriculum from the ground up, giving us opportunities no other high school students in the world have. He always had more energy than anyone in the school no matter what. You could tell that he was genuinely excited about being our teacher and would do anything to help us conduct our research. He always said his purpose in life is to be a door hinge, opening doors of opportunity for all his students, and that description of himself could not be more accurate.”

Advice for the incoming sophomores

“Try everything. Go to all the school events, try a bunch of clubs, meet new people. High school is the time to figure out who you are and what you like to do. North Penn gives us so many unique opportunities. We have amazing programs in theater, music, sports, and all different types of clubs. I believe anyone can find something they really enjoy doing at North Penn, as long as they try new things.”

To the Class of 2021, I leave…

“A single Airpod to drown out the painful sound of the new bell system. I would have left a second Airpod but I wouldn’t want to break the rules.”
