Rubins plans to attend Franklin & Marshall College for both government and psychology.

Behind the Choice: Rachel Rubins

College: Franklin and Marshall College

Major: Government and Psychology

Why did you pick your major?

I picked my major because I want to become a psychologist, but I also want a solid background in government to get a better understanding of the law.

Plans for after college: I want to attend graduate school for Forensic Psychology.

What was your college process like?

At first, I wanted a big school with sports teams and tailgates. Everyone talks about wanting that, so I thought I wanted it for myself. However, when I started touring colleges, I realized all of the benefits I get from a smaller school. The idea of getting to know all of my professors on a personal level really drew me to a small school. I would be a name, not just a number. I loved how invested they were in their students, and I wanted to feel like I could make a difference at a school. What separated Franklin & Marshall College from the rest was my experience on campus. I wasn’t going to tour it, but we had the day off of school and so my mom and I found a school that was close enough to drive to and from that day. When I got to the admissions building, we immediately were befriending the tour guides and having great conversations. They were genuinely interested in me and my life. The campus itself was beautiful, and every building was brick and matching. After my interview, my mom and I were leaving and we passed these two girls sitting outside. They didn’t work in admissions, they were just random students who happened to be there. Before I knew it, we were sitting together and talking with them for an hour. As time went on, more and more of their friends came by and we all just got along so well. At that moment, I knew I made actual friends. That gave me the confidence to do Early Decision 1 for F&M. I was lucky enough to get in, and I am beyond excited for next year.
