WRESTLING- North Penn and Interboro faced each other on December 20th, 2017 for an out of conference match up.

TOWAMENCIN- On Wednesday night, the North Penn Knights’ Wrestling Team (4-2) was able to handle the Interboro Buccaneers (2-7) dominantly. In this out of conference match up, the Knight’s four seniors pinned each of their opponents to help finish out the victory.

“We are young in the light weights, so we need to count on those seniors, and all year they are going to need to get pins for us,” said Coach Robert Shettsline.

In their 57-19 win over Interboro, the Knight’s had five pins, one individual win, and four forfeits. The meet started with a pin in the 106 lbs weight class by freshman Eddie Galang over Interboro’s Johnny Scibello.

The score now at 6-0, North Penn junior Austin Zeigler looked to improve the Knight’s score, but was quickly pinned by Interboro’s Osvaldo Carbajal in the 113 lbs weight class. The score then 6-6, was the closest it would be for the rest of the night.

The 120 and 126 lbs weight classes were both forfeited by Interboro, allowing the Knight’s to gain an 18-6 lead.

Then, in a well fought 132 lbs match, North Penn freshman Nophir Harrell won by a score of 7-5 in the third period over Aiden McDevitt. Moving on to the 138 lbs weight class, with the score 21-6, came freshman Colin McGuire. McGuire moved well and seemed to have Interboro’s Dylan Lajudice on the ropes but lost 8-6 after what many believed to be a pin.

The lead was then cut to 21-13, as junior Mahedi Hasan was bested by Interboro’s Dustin Cornett at the 145 lbs weight class. Immediately following, the Bucs had to sacrifice 12 points in two forfeits at the 152 and 160 weight class. North Penn’s exciting Pat O’Neill was unable to wrestle because of the 160 lbs forfeit.

Heading into the 170 lbs weight class match, the Knight’s had a solid 33-13 lead. That set the stage for North Penn senior Reid Dentner to pin Interboro’s Joe Forte in the middle of the third period.

“We were glad to see Reid do as well as he did,” explained Shettsline, “The guy took him down early, but he was able to come back and get the pin.”

Interboro scored their last points of the night in the 182 lbs weight class with Mike Moore’s pin of North Penn sophomore Nolan Verespy, but this only cut their deficit by 6.

Seniors Dan Sibel (195), Owen Verespy (220), and Ryan Cody (285) each had pins over Interboro in the second period to help close out the meet.

“We’ve been preparing, training, perfecting our skills all of last year and the off season. Really fine tuning our craft, giving us the clear advantage. We put on a show, kept it interesting, and everyone had a good time.” said senior Dan Sibel.

The Knights will travel to Bethlehem to compete in the Liberty Tournament on December 28th and 29th.
