North Penn traveled to Abington on Friday night where they finished off a perfect regular season putting up 45 points on the Ghosts.

ABINGTON- The North Penn Knights Football Team (10-0) took to the gridiron against the Abington Galloping Ghosts (5-4) in an out of league game on Friday night. However, with North Penn winning 45-7, it was apparent that Abington was not only literally out of North Penn’s league, but also physically, much like most of the teams the Knights have faced this year.

The Knights encountered something that they were not fully ready for at the start of the game; North Penn was faced with a defense that knew exactly how they like to play. After a bit of a slow start, the Knights starting clicking by using their strengths and adapting to their opponent’s formation.

“We struggled in the beginning, but we made adjustments and used our speed on the outside to our advantage,” said senior quarterback Reece Udinski.

The Knights, in order to get on the scoreboard, brought out junior kicker Kelly Macnamara to kick a field goal, putting the Knights ahead 3-0 at the end of the first quarter (3:10).

“I think our team played very well. Sometimes we got ourselves into bad situations, but we did a great job of overcoming the problems and capitalizing,” said junior Owen Thomas.

In the second quarter, the Knights wasted no time by earning a touchdown in the first 20 seconds, thanks to a pass from Udinski to Thomas (11:40).

“It was big [for us]. Getting the first score of the game is always a big momentum change and we try to score first every game,” said Udinski.

This touchdown incited the offensive spark that the Knights needed. Udinski passed to senior Ricky Johns, who was wide open in the end zone, for another North Penn touchdown (8:15). The Ghosts answered back with a touchdown (6:45), but their efforts were met with yet another North Penn touchdown less than a minute later from Udinski to Hubler (5:56).

“We just had to settle down and play our game; that led us to our success,” said sophomore Jon Haynes.

Udinski was also able to connect with senior Nick Dillon before the half for another touchdown (1:22), putting the Knights ahead 31-7.

The second half started out much like the first, both teams keeping the other from scoring opportunities. However, this time the Knights were able to click as they earned a touchdown from another Udinski pass to Hubler (5:10).

“I think some key moments were the big pass plays we had. Jake Hubler did a great job tonight getting open and catching the ball, but of course we couldn’t do this without our offensive line; they had a great night tonight,” said Thomas.

With a 38-7 lead, the Knights were comfortable enough to give their starters some rest and other players some playing time. Senior quarterback Andrew Roth entered the game and quickly connected with sophomore Xzavier Gorsky for a touchdown in the final seconds of the third quarter (0:12).

Both the Knights and the Ghosts kept the offenses from scoring in the fourth quarter, leaving the game 45-7.

“Our best asset is each other. When we are rolling, we are hard to stop,” said Haynes.

With the win over Abington, the Knights finish undefeated as they prepare for District One playoffs which open up next Friday.
