Lady Knights kick to tie with Hatters

TOWAMENCIN – Coming in as a heavy favorite on Friday, the North Penn Girls’ Soccer team failed to grab all three points against the underdog Horsham-Hatboro team, finishing the game in a 1-1 tie.

The Lady Knights’ performance was not up to par as the Hatters were coming into the game with a single point in the conference standings.

“It was well below average,” lamented Coach Jim Dehner.  “We came out slow. We dropped down a level. We played down to them.”

While North Penn controlled the game for the most part, it took 39 minutes for the home team to finish. Horsham-Hatboro could not clear the cross from Junior forward Kristina Miller and Junior forward Morgan Brett finished the ball bouncing inside the penalty box.

However, the Hatters rebounded from the goal in second half. On 68 minute, forward Rachel Kaplan beautifully flicked the ball over her defender’s head and played one-two pass with her teammate Mikaela Malofiy. Kaplan calmly finished the chance, burying the ball top right of the net.

North Penn had plethora of chances but poor finishing ultimately came back to haunt them.

“We had a lot of opportunities to finish, but couldn’t get it in the back of the net,” commented Coach Dehner, “it doesn’t help any program if you can’t score.”

“We had great opportunities, great forwards,” stated freshman midfielder Marissa Brown “we just need to find the back of the net.”

The result was not the only disappointing aspect of the game. In the 70th minute, Senior fullback Stephanie Bresadola came down injured and carried off the field.

“We lost a good player,” commented Junior fullback Kristin Wilkinson who came on as a replacement for injured senior, “but hopefully she’ll recover quickly and we just have to work harder as a team.”

“It hurts the team that she’s one of our captains,” stated Coach Dehner, “but we have some quality player that can step in her spot. We have girls with experiences who can jump right in her spot.”

North Penn looks to put behind their poor performance at CB South today.
