Cross Country – A Hidden Gem of Sports

TOWAMENCIN- The fall season not only brings thoughts of the start of school, but the start of fall sports  seasons and the dreams of a team coming together to achieve the goal of a state championship. More specifically, fall also brings the start of one of the most physically demanding and competitive sports, cross country.

The North Penn cross country team often has trouble getting attention because of the glare cast from the Friday night lights of Crawford Stadium. The attention paid to the football team’s success often leads to the North Penn students overlooking the runners of the undefeated boys cross country team.

Most would attribute this to a lack of entertainment brought from the race itself. This does not change the fact that the efforts of the boys “XC” team has put them in a position to capture the ultimate goal of winning states.

Senior leaders such as Dan Davis and Ben Kloss, along with Junior captain Jack Macauley have lead the Knights to a perfect record to date. The Knights charge in to districts and states with a great deal of confidence because of the experience brought from the seniors and the team chemistry that has bonded the team.

Team chemistry and leadership are important for any team but it would be difficult to find another North Penn team with more than this group. Senior Ben Kloss stated the teams goal very clearly when he said “win states.” The Knights will look to feed off this confidence as they march in to districts and states over the next two weeks.

The Knights travel to Lehigh University this weekend for the District Cross Country Meet.
