LANSDALE- The North Penn School District Board of School Directors met Thursday evening for an action meeting where they recognized members of four North Penn High School teams, discussed the North Penn School District strategic plan, and approved all items under the agenda.

The Board recognized four groups of individuals for their incredible accomplishments. First, the Board recognized two wrestlers who went to state. The Board also recognized two state championship teams: the North Penn High School Unified Bocce team and the North Penn High School Girls Swimming and Diving team. Lastly, the Board recognized the Boys Swimming League and District Champions and state runner-ups.

Superintendent Dr. Curt Dietrich ran through the strategic plan which includes redistricting, a renovation plan for buildings and fields, security staff for elementary schools, district management, staff wellness opportunities, full-day kindergarten, class size reduction, career education and workforce readiness, student mental health, behavioral support, community engagement with immigrant families, increasing staff diversity, etc. Posters with different items of the plan were posted in the building and Board members could put up dots on each item to indicate which items they felt were ready to be initiated.

Seven community members spoke during the Audience of Citizens about several issues including the disadvantages of the current system for making up snow days, the need for smaller class sizes, and the importance of inclusion.

Following the Committee Reports, all items under the Superintendent’s Report were approved including adoption of textbooks and other resources, six summer school programs for 2018, the North Montco Technical Career Center 2018-19 Budget, the sale of eight obsolete school buses, the 2018-2019 bid for AV supplies, general supplies, nursing supplies, and art supplies. Other items included the change of the Safe Schools Meetings to 6:00 pm on May 24, June 26, July 24, August 28, September 25, October 23, and November 27, 2018, change of the ECP Meeting on May 22 2018 to May 24, 2018, the special education plan for the timeframe of July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2021, a contract to App-Techs for security cameras at Bridle Path ES, Gwynedd Square ES, Walton Farm ES, Northbridge School, Support Services Center, and the Transportation Center in the amount of $157,602.23, and several other items. Personnel items and items listed under student travel were approved as well.

Following the Superintendent’s Report, Mr. Stephen Skrocki updated the Board on several developments including the implementation of Board Docs which will be replacing paper agendas and minutes for the May meeting and read aloud the finance report.

The next North Penn School District Board of School Directors meeting will be a work session meeting on Tuesday, May 8th at 7:30 PM in the Educational Services Center.
