NPHS Democrats’ Club to Host School Board

TOWAMENCIN – Most students do not realize the importance of the school board and the impact of their decisions on the grades K-12 student population. The new NPHS Democrats’ Club will be hosting Jenna Ott, Tina Stoll, and Jonathan Kassa, three of the NP school board members, this Thursday, January 25th, at 3 PM in room K223.

The school board officials will introduce themselves, discuss their election onto the school board, and elaborate upon their roles and positions on schoolwide issues, specifically here at North Penn High School.

Topics of Discussion:

  • Class Size & Inclusion of All Students
  • Facilities’ Improvements
  • Curriculum Change Aims
  • Students’ Mental Health
  • Limiting Student Drug Use
  • And more…

“Participation in local government has never been more important. The school board regularly makes decisions which directly affect every student in our district, so this event poses as a great opportunity to interact with such officials and see what they, as students, can do to make a difference!” says Alexis Bamford, NPHS’ Democrats’ Outreach Coordinator.

Students will have the opportunity to prepare and ask questions on a pertinent topic of their choice to the School Board. Any student is welcome to attend, regardless of political affiliation. This meeting will last from 3-4:15 PM– just in time for the late bus!

The new NPHS Democrats’ club aims towards increasing youth political involvement and advocacy for progressive ideals. The Democrats’ Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of every month in K223.  A political affiliation is not required for membership; however, students must be open towards new ideas and activities. Club activities include volunteering for Democratic campaigns, discussing current affairs, and listening to key Democrat officials address our club about their roles and facing issues in the political realm at the local, state, and national levels. The club’s future plans include inviting Scott Heppard, Congressman Brendan Boyle’s Political Director, on February 8th and Alexa Williams, former regional campaign manager for Hillary Clinton’s Presidential Campaign, on February 22nd. All talks are open for the student body to attend.
