TOWAMENCIN- Who doesn’t love a good ole’ tailgate? An opportunity to show one’s school spirit and root for one’s favorite team is something in which NPHS always excels, proving to organize carefully planned events in order to boost enthusiasm throughout the school. This past Friday, September 23rd NPHS held their 6th annual tailgate for the homecoming game against the Pennridge Rams, and with about 575 students in attendance, the school spirit was through the roof.

For Eva Steele, sophomore at NPHS, it was a moment that she’ll never forget.

“It’s nice to have people together as a community,” said Steele. “It was nice to see everyone in the halls wearing the same shirts, especially [at] the pregame pep rally. It was really cool that everyone came together. I’m having a lot of fun.”

Serving a variety of food, such as hotdogs, hamburgers, and original cookie corner cookies, provided by the SGA, and offering activities like kanjam, cornhole, football, the environment was ecstatic. There was even face painting going on, which wasn’t provided by SGA, but by students voluntarily helping others to display their school spirit.

“I think the coolest thing about the tailgate is that it involves everybody,” explained Mr. Kyle Berger, co-adviser for NPHS’s SGA. “Anybody can attend, and it brings everyone together regardless of what club they are in [or] background is; everyone’s here to have a good time, and we help provide that.”

Since NPHS has started the tailgate, Berger explained that significant improvements have been shown over the years.

“The sheer magnitude of it is one of the things you won’t find anywhere else,” stated Berger. “We have 575 kids here tonight; that’s bigger than most high schools’ senior classes, which is pretty impressive.”

Something that started out completely new for NPHS has turned out to be an event that much of the student body looks forward to.

“This is the most people we’ve ever had. So it’s just like most events when they first start out. Maybe it’s not as big as you think it would be, but then you get that momentum for an event, and it snowballs,” explained Berger.

Students who initially weren’t familiar with each other started to make friends and have a good time, enjoying what NPHS has to offer. From the sophomores to the seniors, the positive atmosphere among the student body seemed to contribute to the students’ excitement regarding the homecoming game.
