NCTE Writing competition honors bestowed upon NPHS writer

Knight Crier

LANSDALE – The North Penn School District is proud to recognize three North Penn High School (NPHS) students for their performance in the 2015 National Council of the Teachers of English Writing Contest. Advanced Placement (AP) English students Jani Berghuis, Kathryn Knab and Amanda Lee received superior distinction in this national contest.

The annual competition requires high school juniors from across the country to submit a piece of writing of their choice as well as a response to an assigned prompt. Submissions are anonymously rated by national judges on the basis of content, purpose, audience, tone, word choice, organization, development and style.

Of the 650 students who participated in the country-wide contest, only 141 were recognized for superior writing skills. Seven of those students were from Pennsylvania, and among them, three were AP English students Jani Berghuis (student of Ellen McKee), Kathryn Knab, and Amanda Lee (students of Janet Kratz) from North Penn High School.
