Rowdy for a Rout: North Penn fans get fired up by Philadelphia Eagles mascot Swoop, prior to Friday night’s victory over Pennridge.

TOWAMENCIN – Something was different early on in Friday night’s football game at Crawford Stadium. North Penn was losing. The North Penn Knights played their first game where they were down in the first quarter, as Pennridge took a quick 7-0 lead, but that didn’t hinder them from defeating Pennridge (2-3). It was pretty much all Knights after that, as they scored 45 unanswered points en route to a 45-21 win, and continued their three-game streak of putting the Mercy Rule into effect.

Being down in the first quarter was a strange scenario for the Knights, but they brushed it off with poise.

“I think this was the first time all year that we were down in a game so it felt weird, but I thought we responded well. Our defense really stepped it up after the first touchdown.” said senior quarterback Reece Udinski.

The Knights answered back on the scoreboard when Kelly McNamara kicked a 27 yard field goal, cutting the Rams lead to 7-3 in the first quarter.

“I thought Kelly was awesome tonight, kicking all her extra points and making that field goal for us,”  coach Dick Beck noted.

Udinski dominated the second quarter, throwing for hree touchdowns, two to Owen Thomas and one to Nick Dillon. Dillon was a key runner for the Knights, rushing 53 yards by halftime and 90 overall. Udinski connected on five TD passes on the nighl.

“We had a slow start, but we came back and did a good job getting the ball up the field,” Dillon said.

The Knights saw the same success in the third quarter as they scored another three touchdowns putting them up 45-7 (Jake Hubler 64 yards, Julian White 6 yards, and Justis Henley 41 yards). The drive also put the mercy rule into effect for the third week in a row. Pennridge showed some late life with four plays, taking them 77 yards for a touchdown scored by Joe Robinson.

Pennridge was also able to get on the scoreboard again in the fourth quarter, but that was all they were able to accomplish with the rolling clock, as the Knights remained unbeaten through week five.

The Knights will travel to Central Bucks South next week to face the Titans (5-0) for their first away game. Unbeaten records are on the line for both teams as the Knights will play their first game of the season away from the comforts of home.
