Maidens sink Souderton in rival water polo matchup

TOWAMENCIN- As each water polo season begins, it’s only a matter of time until the decibel level and intensity level push the limits of the Rick Carroll Natatorium, and if Souderton is in town, it’s a safe bet that those levels will reach their max.

 
Last week, The Maidens Water polo team came out fired up against rival Souderton, and had little difficulty dispatching their conference rivals 12-6 for a big early season win.

 
The Maidens stayed hot and extended their winning streak to five games. The Maidens dominated throughout the game, jumping out to an early 2-1 lead after the first quarter. Shannon Quinn put North Penn ahead 3-1 at the start of the second quarter. With only three minutes left in the second quarter the Indians came back to be within one point of the Maidens.

The Maidens capitalized on numerous Souderton fouls, and at the end of the half were ahead 7-4. They were aided with strong defensive play from Kailyn Evans, Leah Brown and Erin O’Neill.

 
“It was a very physical game,” said North Penn Senior captain Shannon Quinn. “They’re always fired up to play us.”

 
For North Penn goals were scored by Baur, Quinn, Brown, Gillespie, and O’Neill. Communicating well in the water North Penn dominated in the third quarter 10-5. Pushing to keep the lead the Maidens scored two more goals putting them up 12-5.

 
“It feels great to beat them because they always think that they can beat us,” said Quinn. The Maidens are now 5-0 in their conference.

 
The girls hope to continuing their winning streak Tuesday the 29th against Pennridge.
