TOWAMENCIN- This year, North Penn’s annual fall show is a Shakespearean walk back in time. As You Like It is set in the time of the Renaissance, and is filled with romance, anticipation, and a hint of comedy.

The Shakespearean comedy, adapted for North Penn High School’s stage, follows the conflict between Rosalind and Orlando as the two lovers find their romance blossoming. However, this love story comes with a twist: much to Orlando’s oblivion, his lover, exiled from the court, has taken on a very different appearance.

As You Like It features many lines that audiences will surely know, including the famous “all the world’s a stage” monologue in which Shakespeare describes the seven ages of man.

From the casting of the play in late September to opening night this Thursday, many hours of hard work were put in by cast and crew members, as well as by the adults who work to produce professional quality plays on a high school stage.

“We put in hours of practice throughout the weeks we’ve been preparing,” said NPHS theater director Andrea Lee Roney. “All the kids did so well, and I am very happy with the turnout of the production, and can’t wait for this weekend.”

For many students, the thought of attending a Shakespeare play is daunting. However, the actors and actresses on stage hope that their production of the play makes the Bard accessible to the masses.

“I think that the Shakespearean language make the play a little hard to understand, but in all I think the play is very good,” said senior Stephen Sokolowski, who plays Oliver. “I am hoping that there is a big turn out this weekend, because we put in a lot of work and we are very excited to get to share this play with everyone.”

North Penn High School Theatre’s production of As You Like It will be performed this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30 and this Sunday at 2:00. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults, and great seats are still available at the door for all performances.
