North Penn senior Abby Plaugher is excited about what lies ahead for her senior season and beyond.

TOWAMENCIN- She’s had a great career so far at North Penn basketball, and varsity captain Abby Plaugher is ready to start her final high school basketball season.

This past summer, Plaugher explored many college opportunities and decided to further her education and athletic career at Salisbury University in Maryland.

“I had so many phone calls with college coaches. I had a few visits on campus, and then I narrowed it down to a couple of schools,” Plaugher explained.

Although the process was tedious, Plaughers connection to Salisbury was unparalleled, as she knew it would be her home for the next four years.

“I really like the team dynamic they have there. And the coach, she’s the best. I love the coach. Especially when I took my overnight, I really clicked with the girls. I could see myself going there,” Plaugher said. “When I could see myself wanting to go back, that’s how I knew I wanted to be there.”

In preparation for college, Plaugher spends the second half of her day at Penndale Middle School studying alongside Mr. Michael Adernetto through North Penn’s career study program.

“I like it because I can see exactly what I’m gonna be doing,” Plaugher explained.

Staying motivated and persistent can be challenging. Plaugher uses support from friends and family to work through the season and play her best. As the youngest of three, she looks up to her two older siblings, who were in her shoes just a few years prior.

“Definitely my family, for sure. Especially my brother and sister; like I said, I’m the youngest, so they all went through that,” Plaugher remarked. “They can kind of lead me in the right direction and tell me what to do.”

While college is upcoming, Plaugher’s last season at North Penn is coming up even sooner. Plaugher’s previous season will be one to remember with a strong new coaching staff and an even stronger returning lineup.

“Our coaching staff was new last year, so they have a season under their belt, and we have a season under our belt altogether,” Plaugher said. “We return our whole starting lineup from last year, and all five of us have such strong chemistry, and we’ve all known each other forever.”

Playing for seven years for North Penn presents opportunities for friendships similar to a family.

“I grew up with a lot of these girls on the team playing basketball, like Caleigh Sperling. We played in middle school together in seventh grade and eighth grade, and we’re here playing together now,” Plaugher mentioned.

As Plaugher prepares for her final season, she looks back at all the opportunities North Penn has presented her with and all the new people she has met.

“I’ll definitely miss the relationships I’ve built. I’m close with a lot of girls on the team, so I’ll definitely miss that,” Plaugher said. “Playing high school sports is literally the best thing you could ever do.”
