A Certain Teaching Style – Fashionable Faculty of NPHS

A+Certain+Teaching+Style+-+Fashionable+Faculty+of+NPHS

TOWAMENCIN- Have you ever seen a teacher in the school who was wearing something you’ve seen at one of your favorite stores or maybe even wearing a shirt similar to one of yours? Don’t be alarmed, it’s nowhere even close to a bad thing- these teachers are super fashionable. North Penn teachers have the privilege of choosing their fashion and many of them know how to do so extremely well. Fashion trends can change in the blink of an eye but these teachers know how keep up. They stay on top of things in the fashion world while maintaining a professional appearance that North Penn take pride in.

Ms. Joelle Townsend- FCS Teacher

As soon as you hear her name, the first thing you think of is fashion. She’s the teacher who is always in heels and always looks stylish, she’s Mrs. Townsend. When asked what types of things she likes to wear most often, Townsend didn’t leave out anything. Obvious by her unique outfit which consisted of a blazer, sweater with a ruffled collar, and a scarf as a belt, Townsend “[likes] things that are tailored and conservative but with a twist to it.” She says that she always likes to add that extra accessory or item “just because.” Townsend also says that she loves to “mix and match different prints and textures together and [she] like[s] a lot of metals… [she’s] all about the big hoops.” Referring back to the heels that she wears every day, Townsend tells us how the only time she can be found in another type of shoe is when she is working out. However, she says that “if [someone] could figure it out, you know stiletto workout shoes, [she] think[s] [she’d] do it.”

Hearing about Mrs. Townsend’s style might make one wonder where she likes to shop and although some of her outfits may seem high end and expensive, Townsend has some secrets to looking professional without burning a hole in your wallet. Believe it or not, one of her favorite places to shop is Kohl’s. She “love[s]  Kohl’s,  Kohl’s cash, Kohl’s discounts” and she “like[s] to mix and match Kohl’s fun stuff with maybe something that’s a little more upscale or more expensive from another store.” Some other places she enjoys shopping are Macy’s, overstock.com, and the King of Prussia Mall (who doesn’t?!) To say the least, Mrs. Townsend knows how to get all the expensive looks for less.

As for where she gets her ideas from and if she follows the latest fashion trends, Mrs. Townsend says that “[she is] a magazine-crazy person so [she] is always looking at magazines.” She enjoys seeing what trends are in for the season and seeing the different shapes of clothing “but as far as going and changing [her] whole look for something, [she] won’t do that. [She] feel[s] like [she] know[s] [herself] and what looks good on [her]… [so she] stick[s] with what [she] feel[s] good in and with that add[s] the accessories that are [in style] right now.”

 Dr. Nicole Yetter- Guidance Counselor

If you don’t know who Dr. Yetter is, she is a counselor who can be found in home office F-40 helping and supporting students in their high school career–all while looking super trendy. When asked to tell us a little about her fashion, Yetter replied that she “[has] always enjoyed fashion over the years and as time has gone on and the fashions change [she] like[s] to change not only [her] fashion but also [her] hair [so she will] grow it out or have really short hair like [she does] now; [She] like[s] to stay with what’s current or different.”

She likes to keep her style current with fashion trends “but [she] like[s] a good bargain.” Some of her favorite places to shop are Ross, Marshalls, and the Outlets. She also likes to shop at Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic, and GAP for her work clothes. She also loves to wear designers like Michael Kors as well as “one of [her] top favorites [which] is BCBG.”

Dr. Yetter knows how to be trendy and she knows how to find a good bargain. Like Mrs. Townsend, Yetter knows where to shop to get the expensive looks for less. She knows how to mix the average and higher end items to create a perfectly trendy outfit that works for her…and her wallet.

Mrs. Elizabeth Weizer- English Teacher

Mrs. Weizer is another North Penn teacher who knows what’s up when it comes to fashion. When asked what types of clothing she likes to wear she said that “[she] like[s] to wear things that are classic but trendy.” She noticed that her wardrobe includes a lot of black items so she enjoys adding accessories to her outfits, like “shoes or jewelry [with] a pop of color… to make it a little more fun.”

As for where she finds her clothing, Mrs. Weizer says that “[her] favorite places to shop would be online, J.Crew, Banana Republic, the Limited, Ann Taylor Loft; things that [she] can wear to school that are fun but that [she] can also wear on the weekends.”

Mrs. Weizer also likes to read magazines to get some inspiration for her style. She “like[s] to read TMZ, Perez Hilton, and People magazine all the time. She likes to “emulate some of the celebrities fashion, “without being too crazy- like Kim Kardashian- but [also] like[s] to think that [she has her] own style.”

Mrs. Weizer takes pride in her appearance and says somewhat feels that it is inevitable, considering that “[she has] two younger sisters [who] are really into fashion too so it runs in the family.”

Mrs. Summer Sieller- English Teacher

“If you put yourself together you’re prepared for the day” says English Teacher, Mrs. Sieller about fashion. She feels that looking fashionable not only helps appearance but it also gets you ready to take on the day. “[She tries] to dress up pretty frequently and now [that she is] a young mom, [she] always [tries] to think about- [she doesn’t] want to embarrass [her] daughter as she gets older [so she] think[s] about it and care[s] about it so that’s why [she tries] to put it together.”

“In terms of shopping, [she is] a big bargain hunter. [She] refuses[s] to pay full price for anything.” Because of this, Mrs. Sieller seems to do a lot of her shopping at Target, will occasionally peruse Forever 21, and “actually [shops] a lot of thrift stores [where she] find[s] pieces and add[s] to [her] collection that way. “She, as well as many other trendy teachers at North Penn, finds good deals on clothes that are currently very stylish. She also said that she loves to get ideas from Pinterest.

Mrs. Sieller thinks about looking trendy while saving money but more than anything, she think[s] about how [she] put[s] [herself] together regularly” because it is something she finds truly important and in her eyes, can be the key to a good day.

Mrs. Suzanne Daywalt- Social Studies Teacher

She might teach her students about fashion in history, such as the trends of the flapper era, but she definitely doesn’t follow that olden-day style. She’s a history teacher with modern day fashion, she’s Mrs. Daywalt. When it comes to clothing, Mrs. Daywalt can’t get enough, she enjoys shopping so much that is has become like a hobby to her. Humorously, she tells us that she “really [does] love to shop [and she] may have a problem, [she’s] not 100% sure.” Some of her favorite places to shop at are the mall, specifically Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Ann Taylor Loft, as well as Charming Charlie’s, which she recently found to be an exciting place to shop. Basically, she will shop anywhere, but she looks for good deals.

Revealing a little about what she likes to where and where she gets her ideas from, Daywalt says that she ”like[s] to look at what’s fashionable.[She will] watch Fashion Police when [she] can catch it but it’s more for the humor than [for] the fashion.” She looks at what is currently fashionable but doesn’t feel that she really follows trends. She has her own unique style and “just [tries] to look professional, stylish, not too young or like [she’s] trying too hard- that’s kind of what [she likes to] go with.” She pays attention to fashion but doesn’t stray from what she is comfortable with wearing and who she is.

Talking to Mrs. Daywalt got her thinking a little more than usual about how much she really does love fashion. She says that “[she] love[s] clothes, [she] like[s] project runway, and [she really does] enjoy fashion more than [she] thought [she] did…pretty things, seeing people dress up, [she] like[s] it.”

Ms. Lauren Budweg- Math Teacher

Whether she is coaching from the sidelines of the girls’ basketball games or teaching algebra and trig to her math classes, Ms. Lauren Budweg knows how to look stylish. Surprised by the Knight Crier’s request for her inclusion in this article, Budweg said that “[she thinks] it’s hysterical that [we] picked [her] for this because [she doesn’t] consider [herself] fashionable at all…” but many people would disagree. Mrs. Budweg knows how to look comfortable but trendy at the same time. Coincidence, I think not, that her biggest thing when shopping for clothing is “comfort, comfort, comfort, that’s really it.” She likes to shop at places like Old Navy, Kohl’s, Ann Taylor, the Outlets, but “[she]won’t go the mall or anything because [she is] maybe a bargain shopper like [she] won’t go and spend a hundred dollars on anything, ever.” She tries to keep her style simple, trendy, and like all the other fashionable teachers, on a reasonable budget.

As for where she gets her style ideas from, Ms. Budweg says that “[she] used to watch Project Runway just because [she] thought it was a cool show but it’s even been years since [she’s] seen that [but she will] flip through awards shows to see what women will come out wearing and stuff like that but [doesn’t] ever envision [herself] going to New York City to see Fashion Week or anything like that.” She enjoys observing current fashion trends but likes to have her own style. She sticks to what is comfortable and doesn’t stress over finding clothing. Basically, she goes into her favorite stores, “see[s] what’s on the racks and [says to herself] ‘oh that looks nice I’ll try that on’ and as long as it’s comfortable” it’s right for her. She “like[s] to be in bright colors a lot of the times and [doesn’t] like to be dark and dingy all the time.” Her simple yet stylish wardrobe can easily be summed up in two words: colorful and comfortable.

Teachers take pride in what they wear to school and like to keep up with what’s new and currently trending. They know how to look professional without over spending on any one clothing item and more importantly, they know how to be themselves. They look at celebrity fashions to see what types of things people are wearing but they never stray too far from what they feel good wearing. These teachers know all about style, so don’t hesitate to take on some of their ideas and shopping advice. These are just a few of the many fashionable teachers here at North Penn High School- I’m sure there is one around every corner.
