Hegel, Simon, and Viscuci Win Award from PennDOT

LANSDALE – Congratulations to North Penn High School students Nathan Hegel, Alexandra Simon and Derek Viscusi for being named District 6 winners of a Public Service Announcement (PSA) contest sponsored by PennDOT. This year’s theme was discouraging distracted driving.

On April 26, PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch announced that 10 winning scripts were selected in the department’s annual radio public service announcement contest for high-school students. The winners were selected from more than 150 submissions made to 10 of PennDOT’s 11 local engineering districts.

“We were very impressed with the creative ways these students found to discourage distracted driving,” said Schoch. “Distracted driving is a growing concern and we hope that these messages will resonate with drivers of all ages.”

Hegel, Simon and Viscusi will travel to Harrisburg with North Penn High School Television/Radio teacher Kyle Berger on May 9 to have their PSA professionally recorded and receive award certificates. The PSAs will then be distributed to local radio stations.

For more information about the North Penn High School student winners, please contact Kyle Berger at [email protected]. For additional information on distracted driving and PennDOT’s other safety efforts, please visit www.JustDrivePA.com.
