Season Over: The Knights huddle after a hard fought 42-35 playoff loss at Spring-Ford on Friday, November 3, 2023.

ROYERSFORD – 28 unanswered points… wasn’t enough.

Heading into the playoffs with 4 straight wins, the North Penn Knights (6-4) looked to keep their season alive facing the Spring-Ford Rams (8-2). In a battle fought in the trenches, the Rams came out on top 42-35.

The Rams came out with a commanding lead of 21-0 with 9:16 left in the first half. Quarterback Matt Zollers and wide-receiver Mason Scott were unstoppable all night.

Amir Major, who led the team with five touchdowns, ran 40 yards, scoring the Knights’ first touchdown. The Rams got the ball back and Aiden Quallet came up big with a 2nd down sack that would lead to a Rams punt. The Knights would then take the ball straight to the endzone with another one of Major’s touchdowns

With 2:26 left in the first half, the Rams fumbled the kickoff which the Knights promptly picked up. Killing time on the clock, the Knights then ran the ball all the way to the endzone where Major would get his third touchdown of the night.

The Knights responded to the early deficit, scoring 21 unanswered points to tie the game at 21-21 heading into the half.

The Knights received the ball to start the second half where Matt Bucksar and Aidan Eves had a big connection for a 1st down inside the redzone. Major carried for another touchdown to take the lead.

At the start of the 4th quarter the Knights decided to test Ryan Bocklet’s leg with a 52-yard field goal attempt. Alas the kick just missed. This led  to another Zollers-Scott touchdown and a tie game at 28-28 with 10:54 left in the game.

On the next drive the Knights went 3-and-out and were ready to punt, but faked it to get the first down with 8:20 to go. Major took it to the house again for his fifth touchdown of the night to give the Knights the 35-28 lead with 5:39 left.

The Rams responded with a kickoff return to take them to the 9 yd line, leading to a Belal Abdelrahman touchdown to tie the game at 35-35. The Rams ran the clock out when they got the ball back again and scored another touchdown with 36 seconds left in the game. The Knights couldn’t respond and their season ended.

Head coach Dick Beck explained postgame, “Tonight is like a microcosm of the entire season.” The Knights continued to fight back all season no matter how far down they were. “We get down in the depths and not feeling good about ourselves and next thing you know these seniors kept us tough”

It was a hard fought season for the Knights and the students cannot wait until next year.

“These kids really battled through so much adversity” Coach Beck stated “I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
