TOWAMENCIN – With a three way tie for first place in the Continental conference, the North Penn Knights knew they had to bring their “A game” to Thursday night’s matchup against the rival Central Bucks East Patriots and succeed with a 39-32 victory.

“We knew it was going to be close. We knew it was going to come down to their good guys wrestling against our good guys and we needed guys to step up not give bonus points where we needed to salvage just a three team point loss, and we got bonus point where we could…it just took the guys gutting it out,” explained wrestling assistant coach Bill Robins.

Like many teams, the season was not always smooth sailing for the Knights.

“There’s been a lot of ups and downs, inconsistent wrestling, dealing with injuries dealing with skin issues; it’s been tough to keep the entire lineup wrestling. After every match, win, lose, you come back the next day and try to improve,” added Robins.

Highlights of Thursday’s match included senior Alex Price’s 15 second pin and Dominic Mignon’s last second victory to secure the win for the Knights.

“It was great. We were wrestling on paper a very good team and we just all came together which is a great thing,” stated Price.

Going into his matchup Mignon knew the weight it carried.

“The coach told me I had to knock it major because if I got majored or got pinned it would be a tie, so I felt so pressure there, but I was confident in my drilling and practice in the room that I could pull through.”

On Mignon’s confidence Robins stated explained that everyone on the team is equipped with the skills to win.

“Yeah Dominic did a great job. We always emphasize wrestle how you train and so that means if you’re down by two points you don’t get away from what you do you, do what we practice every day – what these guys have been practicing since they were eight years old; you just stick with what you know – stick with what works, and it pays off.”

The Knights will hit the mat next Wednesday against Souderton in their final league match of year to fight for a share of the league title.
