It was a weekend to remember for North Penn sports.
Senior Mike Buxbaum defeated Adam Blasinsky, 6-0, 6-4, to capture his first Class AAA state championship last Saturday at the Hershey Racquet Club. Buxbaum is the first North Penn student to win the title since Chris Hasyn won it in 2008.
The North Penn Men’s Track team finished 5th overall in this past weekend’s state championship, hosted at Shippensburg University. Senior pole vaulter Vince Esposito took home the state title, while senior Jared Alston finished in second place in the triple jump with a jump of 47’ 2”.
Brian Maher led the Knights back to the state tournament for the first time since 2009. Maher tossed a gem against top-seeded Strath Haven, who had an unblemished record going into the contest. North Penn blanked Strath Haven, 5-0, behind Maher’s game – a four-hit, complete game shutout.
The Lady Knights, led by Sophomore Jackie Bilotti, held Pennridge to just three hits, en route to a 2-0 win, sending the Lady Knights back to states for a second consecutive season. The 12th-seeded Knights will face top-seeded Neshaminy in the District One semifinals.
