Sports Commentary: Lewis, Ravens to test Vick

Sports Commentary: Lewis, Ravens to test Vick

In the days following the Eagles embarrassing 17-16 win over the Cleveland Browns, the cries for Nick Foles are already echoing throughout the streets of Philadelphia–with good reason.

Against the Browns defense, starting quarterback Michael Vick threw 4 interceptions including a 27-yard pick six which forced the Eagles less than stellar offense to score with the clock winding down late in the 4th quarter.

The Eagles offense will need to make major improvements next Sunday against the veteran Raven’s defense. Michael Vick will have to watch out for Ray Lewis and the Raven’s defensive line including 2011 Pro-Bowler Haloti Ngata who ruled the Bengal’s backfield with two sacks and four tackles.

Philadelphia’s strength lies in Shady Mccoy, arguably the best running back in the league. McCoy had 110 yards on 20 attempts to go along with his six catches. Despite being kept out of the endzone, McCoy was reliable when called upon. He did have a fumble early on in the first quarter, but it’s not a habit that he will likely continue.

Despite the Bengal’s top 10 defense, Joe Flacco did have an excellent game last Monday night. However, the Eagles have an elite defense that second year defensive-coordinator Juan Castillo is finally using correctly by highlighting star players such as first round draft pick Fletcher Cox, former Texan DeMeco Ryans, and three-time Pro Bowler Nnamdi Asomugha.

Prediction: If the Eagles can keep the turnovers to a minimum they will be able to pull away with another tally for the win column this Sunday afternoon. The game will ride on the shoulders of Mike Vick and his ability to keep the ball out of the opponent’s hands.

Eagles W 24-16
