Lacrosse Shows No Mercy in Rout of CB South

TOWAMENCIN- Close scores are exciting, but blowouts prove just how dominant a team can be.

On Thursday afternoon, the North Penn girls lacrosse team (10-3, 7-1 league) showed just that as they trumped Central Bucks South by a score of 17-1.

“I think we played really well as a team today,” said head coach Jami Wilus Behm. “Our defense stepped up. [Senior goalie] Jenna Stover had an awesome day in goal. And our offense seemed to be clicking. So we are really happy with the win and hope that we can continue our winning ways.”

Senior Rachel Shaw got the game started scoring her team’s first four goals in the first half. She would go on to finish the game with five goals and added two assists.

“It was awesome [scoring the first four goals],” said an excited Shaw. “It really hyped up the team so we all worked hard and it started going good.”

In addition to some strong performances from senior Brenda McDermott, Kaitlin Suzuki, and Lauren Green who each had three goals, the Maidens were also powered by a strong defense anchored by Stover, who saved five of six shots.

The Maidens were so dominant that they forced a mercy rule before the first half ended. A mercy rule goes into effect after one team scores ten more goals than their opposition. The team attributes several factors to the big first half in which they led 11-0.

“We were connecting on offense, so I think that was definitely a big deal,” said Wilus Behm about the big first half. “We put some goals past their goal keeper in the first half, so I think she was a little nervous facing some of our shots. It all worked out well for us. I think a big part of that was controlling the ball in the defensive end.”

After a non-league matchup against Spring Ford on Saturday, the Maidens will finish out the regular season against four conference opponents; Souderton, Hatboro-Horsham, CB West, and Pennridge. The team knows that there are still several areas they need to improve in.

“There is always something you need to work on,” said Wilus Behm. “We have a couple tough games coming up next week. We just need to continue
