Knights Staying Afloat in the Face of Adversity

TOWAMENCIN- North Penn boys’ swimming has faced a great deal of adversity in recent weeks, but one thing they can rely on is being a team. As the Knights enter the district meet this Thursday, they take with them a great deal of momentum stemming from their suburban one conference championship.

The Knights have been forced to deal with the loss of senior leader Jason Deana due to an injury suffered in practice as well as renovations to their home pool. This adversity has only seemed to give the Knights more determination to succeed.  The loss of Deana would more than likely decimate most other teams but for the Knights depth has been the key to success rather than individuals.

“It is very impressive and I think it shows the great depth that our team has” said Deana. With the absence of Deana, other leaders such as Seniors Pat Dunigan and Tomas Gimenez have stepped up and allowed for the Knights to continue their dominance.

“The way the guys have rallied while Jason’s been out and demonstrated that we are more than just Jason Deana, I think speaks to the character of the team” said Head Coach Brian Daly. The Knights have certainly rallied without Deana capturing another league title.

Coach Daly and the Knights know that it does not matter what adversity comes their way, the competition will have no sympathy. “It kind of comes with the sport, you have to be ready to go every day no matter who is healthy or not healthy” said Daly.

Regardless of what the team is facing, they have had great success thus far this season and look to take that success with them through the postseason.

“I think this is the best team that I have coached” said Daly. It is hard to argue when the team went 10-1 in dual meets and captured a league title with victories in three relays in the league meet.

The Knights will look to continue their success in the District meet this Thursday and Friday and in states two weeks after. If the Knights were not supposed to be having success without Jason Deana and a home pool, someone must have forgot to tell them.
