Dear North Penn Students,

It was when I moved to the North Penn School District in 1992 and began hosting exchange students that I realized the importance of secondary education, in particular, and what an amazing and robust school district we live in. The opportunities for all of the students came to light with my exchange students getting involved in various activities, clubs and yes, their classes, too. I knew I wanted to stay here and make it my home.

Fast forward to 2019, I was introduced by the President of our School Board to what the district was planning for the High School which we know is a major renovation project. I was asked if I would run for the School Board because of my work experience in mechanical engineering and managing large projects. I loved my career and the thought that I may be able to help at the board level was all the more attractive. I was successful in being voted onto the school board in 2019. The project activities were delayed due to an important change in priorities for the Administration and the school board. The pandemic. But, we are back on track and moving ahead with the high school project with the additional possibility of bringing 9th graders to the high school.

In my career, I appreciated and respected input, comments from everyone who was part of the operation of the electrical generating station. They were working in the plant when most of us were not and certainly were better positioned to provide input, recommendations when a renovation was being planned. I am communicating this to you because it is so important to include everyone in our district in the planning and design of the high school. Of course, the the size of our district requires management of how to successfully include everyone.

Additionally, I am focused on all of the district assets, aka, all of our buildings, and, to the best of my ability, at a Board level, assure safe and reliable operation of these buildings. I find this work challenging and exciting.

On a more personal note, I am a dog lover. I have had 10 dogs over the years. I appreciate that our district now has therapy dogs. I believe dogs can provide comfort, support and affection to people in many different situations. I also recognize and respect those whose preference is not to engage with dogs. Maintaining boundaries is necessary.

In closing, I am happy to tell you that I am running with an awesome, dedicated team. Kunbi Rudnik, Tim MacBain, Elisha Gee and Juliane Ramic are as committed as I am to serving this school district, especially our students. I am now at an age where I truly look at you all as thefuture. You are important and special. The present Board, including myself, wants to do our best to provide a safe and welcoming school where you can learn and feel included.

Sincerely,

Cathy Wesley
