Students take time in Knight Time to study and decompress before first period.

High school aged students are constantly swamped with schoolwork and extra activities, while still trying to balance a healthy schedule. Knight Time, whether people realize it or not, provides opportunities for kids to become better students and overall more organized individuals. The reimplementation of Knight Time into North Penn High School’s schedule gives students time to get last minute work done or even to just take a mental break early in the morning.

Arriving to school before 7:21 a.m. is no easy task for a teenager, nor is jumping right into a lesson as soon as they step into the building. The block set up for Knight Time in the morning allows some downtime for students to essentially “wake up” and take in their surroundings, enabling them to settle themselves in for the day ahead of him.

“Knight Time helps me get ready for first period,” junior Jon Lee noted. “Or, sometimes I get to school and just sleep.”

It is inevitable that many times throughout the year, students will have to miss school due to personal reasons, sporting events, vacations, and most common; because of a sickness. In those cases, Knight Time becomes extremely resourceful, as it provides students with a decent block of time to visit teachers and complete missing assignments, or even short quizzes. Without the given time at the beginning of the day to sort out these tasks, students may have to miss lunches, study halls, or be present at school before or after hours to make up work. Obviously, keeping track of this as a student is stress inducing, and overall confusing.

“If I am struggling in certain classes, I can go to those teachers for help in the mornings,” Lee said.

Students tend to struggle with balancing their work along with a life outside of school, all while trying to maintain a stress free mentality. This is difficult to do, but with Knight Time available, many tasks are able to be completed for those types of students. For example, this time is perfect to use for conducting interviews, advertising for school events, or creating publicity for clubs around the school.

“If I had a stressful night the night before, I know I have Knight Time at the beginning of the day to meet with teachers or to finish assignments that I didn’t get to fully finish the night before,” junior Sydni Schorn explained.

Overall, the benefits are there from the implementation of Knight Time. The advantages of this block in the morning outweigh the possibility of getting a few more minutes of sleep or getting out of school a bit earlier. If one knows how to use the opportunities of Knight Time wisely, they can benefit not only as a working student, but mentally as well.
