Knight Likes: North Penn Tradition

TOWAMENCIN – Traditions. We all have them, some quite apparent, others subtle and quite personal. Around the holiday season, we look forward to some of those traditions we hold most dear. At North Penn High School, while faces and names have changed over the years, our own traditions live on, especially in the month of December.

It’s easy to assume that the names and faces of the current North Penn family just merge into one nebulous sea of adolescence and academia, but a walk around the main part of the building would suggest otherwise. The individuality and value of each student and staff member displayed in the annual paper light-bulbs  is one such tradition that succeeds in making North Penn a little bit smaller, even if for only a few days.

Deck the Halls: The annual display of every student and staff member in NPHS has become a welcome tradition leading up to the holiday break.

In addition to the lightbulb display, it is tough to beat the holiday concert put on by the band, chorus, orchestra, and comp. music tech groups. It is the only day of the school year that every student gathers in the auditorium for a two part assembly, and in this case highlighting some of North Penn’s most talented students.

Let us not forget the grand finale of teachers joining the chorus and orchestra for the singing of the Hallelujah Chorus, another tradition unto itself. There is simply something unifying about the traditions at NP that occur in front of large audiences. The traditions are shared with everyone – whether it be the paper lights visible to the thousands who pass them, or the holiday songs played in front of a packed auditorium. In either case, kudos to the groups behind these time honored rites of the school year. May they live on for generations to come.
