Does President Obama Deserve a Second Term?

Does President Obama Deserve a Second Term?

Should Obama Have a Second Chance? That is the question.

In little more than a year there will be a chance of a new presidential inauguration on the historic White House steps. Yet, the odd, motley mix of Republican candidates leaves much to be desired.

Frontrunner and former Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney, a Mormon, will have to overcome the scrutiny of the conservatives who may not be ready for a Mormon president. Herman Cain,CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, who at one time was gaining steam, was caught up in a blizzard of sex scandals, and is no longer on the ticket. These scandals are sadlynot a rare occurrence for the typical politician. He suspended his race as of December 3rd.

Texas Governor Rick Perry is famous, or maybe even infamous, for his extreme religious beliefs. If people are suffering from withdrawal since Sarah Palin went out of the race, they should not fear; Michelle Bachman from the radical and often misguided Tea Party is her clone. Her claim to politics is bring a representative from Minnesota.

The rest of the field included has-been Newt Gingrich, perennial bridesmaid Ron Paul, and the rest… well, they aren’t on the radar anymore.

What happened to intelligent, respectable women such as Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State, and Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the House? This group of Republicans seems like the scrawny kids that are picked last for the Grand Old Party’s baseball team.

The Democratic incumbent, Barack Obama, has been criticized for not keeping his promises of hope and change that seemed as illustrious as the New Deal or the New Frontier. Although the remaining days of his first term are certainly numbered and there are doubts as to whether the Obama family will spend another Christmas next year sitting in the Blue Room, he should be given a second chance.

Obama is still a dreamer like Woodrow Wilson was, and for those who strongly believe he is the worst, they should look back to the times of Harding or Nixon. Since not everyone is familiar with those Presidents’ terms, how about a look at something more recent: President George W. Bush. Is there anything more ludicrous than the fact that he was able to serve two full terms?

He seemed to greet the nation with an insincere smirk plastered on his face and is responsible for much of the economic problems that are now Obama’s responsibility, including the Iraq war that Obama ended, which sent the troops home for the holidays. Of course, it will be difficult to renew hope in Obama and his popularity has plummeted, yet there is still hope for America and second chances are what make the U.S. unique.

I think people need to realize that all the things that go wrong during a presidents term in office is not all the presidents fault, some things they cannot control. You can have a great person in office, but if congress doesnt let them get anything done, of course it will in return look like the person did “nothing” so all blame will be directied at the individual. I think the 1st step is to remove that kind of mindest.

i do believe that this article is one sided; However, it is an opinion piece so that completely justifies the bias. I honestly think that it is not Obama’s fault that he has been a less than productive president. One of the speakers during the mock-convention stated that their hasn’t been any remnants of a bi-partisan effort in congress, and i believe that that has cause the great stand still. It definitely needs to be said that is Bush was allowed to serve two terms after faithfully convincing all of america that Iraq had WMDs, that Obama is certainly in line to receive a second term after ending 2 wars and killing Bin-Laden.
While i’m definitely not a whole hearted republican, i certainly do not just latch onto whatever Obama thinks is beneficial. What congress needs is either more Independents, or for government positions to be purely voluntary. If you are too engaged in the politics of who you side with rather than the politics of the issue, then you are in the wrong line of work. 🙂

Jenia, religion has a part in politics. While there should be a separation between church and state, a person’s political decisions are frequently influenced by his or her religious beliefs.

    In short, yes he does.
He may not be the most qualified candidate, but he certainly is a better candidate than all but maybe one or two Republicans. Also, he is being critiqued for being a liar because he didn’t keep his promise for change, but that is not true. He specifically said in 2008 that the economy would begin its turn-around in 2014. Last I checked, he still has 2 years left. So, while it may be inconvenient to us, he has yet to break a promise. The troops are out of the Middle East, plus, Bin Laden and Hussein are no more. That’s a HUGE step (or steps) in improving our country. If, when re-elected, and by Jan. 1, 2015, we are still in the situation we are today, then he can be accused. But, as of now, ANY president would be suffering the attacks Obama is and they would be struggling to climb out of this hole.
My opinion: Romney, Huntsman, or Obama for 2012.

What I don’t understand is why religion is getting mixed in with politics. This article should strictly be about politics only and it shouldn’t matter what the politions’ religion is anyways.

Even though I agree that Obama should not be re-elected, because it’s very likely that I will be the nominee for the Republican party, this is an opinion piece, and the author is completely justified in taking a biased stance, because, you know, that’s what opinions are.

    NEWT 2012!

This article isn’t really one sided as every network has stated that the republicans are all wacko’s who if elected to office would cause much harm to the already bad economy and as far as Obama he isn’t able to get anything done because of the republicans in congress.

Be impartial, as a reporter shouldnt you give the colorful backgrounds of both parties? This is definately a one sided article geared towards slamming the republican party. I wouldl ove to see reporting from an objective, positive light. What are the accomplishments of each candidate and how they plan to fix America. Your title is does Obama deserve a second term…what has he accomplished over the past 3 years to improve America? What are his plans over the next 5 years if he does win? Your title does not reflect your article

This is an opinion article, so it’s perfectly valid.
Also, despite the fact that some of her arguments go against the GOP, they are still true…
