Sign, Sign, Everywhere a Sign: Campaign signs along Valley Forge Rd in Lansdale, PA promote school board candidates vying for seats on November 7th. The School Board race is just one of many local races that are up for grabs next week.

As November 7th nears, voters can make direct changes in their community elections. Local elections have insubstantial turnout as they are usually held in an “off-year” which is unfortunate as these elections affect local voters the most. Montgomery County and Pennsylvania have many important elections that affect voters directly this year. There is also a special judicial retention on the ballot.

Also important to the local community, this year there are school board elections for the North Penn School District. Make sure to watch this year’s School Board Candidates Forum that was held by the Knight Crier earlier this month.

Here are a few things you need-to-knows for this upcoming election.

Voting Options

This year, you can vote in person or through a mail-in ballot. The deadline to apply for an absentee or mail-in ballot is October 31st, 2023. Both options require voters to be registered to vote. For more information, visit the links provided.

To find your polling location, visit here. Remember, your voting location in the previous election might not be the same this year.

Voter Services

Montgomery County offers a plethora of services to help keep voters informed.

On the Voter Services page on Montgomery County’s website, you can register to vote, find out where your voting poll is, how to vote by mail, and sample ballots to see what you will be voting for on November 7th.

A sample ballot is provided at the link above based on your borough, with exactly who and what you will be voting for.

What is Judicial Retention?

Pennsylvania is one of 11 states that use retention elections to confirm a new judicial term. This year, voters will be asked to consider additional 10-year terms for two appellate judges who sit on the Supreme Court.

Judge Vic Stabile, elected as a Republican in 2013, is seeking a second term. President Judge Jack Panella, elected as a Democrat in 2003, is seeking a third term.
