Tragedy Fell Upon Las Vegas

Last Sunday night, at around 10 o’clock PST, a lone gunman named Stephen Paddock shot and killed 58 concert-goers and injured about 500 more in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 64-year old gunman was in the 32nd-floor suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. He broke all of the windows of the suite and opened fire on hundreds of unsuspecting citizens. This is still a developing story.

Another Tragedy Strikes the Rock ‘n’ Roll Community

Tom Petty suffered from a cardiac arrest early Monday morning. Tony Dimitriades, long-time manager of Tom Petty and his band, The Heartbreakers, released a statement that said,[Tom Petty] died peacefully at 8:40pm PST surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.” He was 66 years old.

Pennsylvania Republican Representative Tim Murphy Resigns

Republican Tim Murphy, who has been an outspoken objector of abortion, resigned last Wednesday after evidence proved that he urged the woman whom he was having an affair with to have an abortion. When asked about the report, a spokesperson for Murphy said, “The office has no comment or response to the story.”

Harvey Weinstein Fired After Recent Sex Scandal

Harvey Weinstein, co-founder of the internationally renowned film company, The Weinstein Company, was relieved of duty following a sex scandal involving numerous occasions of alleged sexual harassment incidents. After the scandal became international news, three other board members resigned. “I cannot be more remorseful about the people I hurt and I plan to do right by all of them,” Weinstein said in a statement.

US Soldiers Ambushed in Niger

A small group of U.S. and Nigerien troops was ambushed by dozens of heavily armed militants riding in pickup trucks earlier this week. According to the Pentagon, they were conducting a reconnaissance patrol at the time. A U.S. Special Forces soldier was identified on Saturday and was killed alongside three other Americans and four Nigerien troops during the surprise attack. Two other American soldiers were injured, and officials said that the Americans were evacuated and in stable condition at a U.S. military hospital in Germany.
