SGA Talent Show Displays Hidden North Penn Talent

TOWAMENCIN – On Friday night, the SGA hosted its annual talent show. Full of amazing talent, the show highlighted some of the best singing and dancing North Penn has to offer.

Taking one month to prepare for the show, the SGA Cabinet had weeklong audition process, choosing the most interesting acts.

“I loved the auditions because we got to see the unexpected talent and what everyone has to offer,” said SGA Cabinet member Amanda Albano.

Hosted by Bobby Dougherty and Jon DiMuzio, the show started out with North Penn band King Cold preforming their original song “The Letter.” Members Pat Farrell, Grayson Holladay, Benn Kloss, and Sean Rauchut got the audience excited for the rest of the acts as they rocked out on stage.

Following King Cold, sophomore Ryan Aragona sang “We Could Happen” by Aj Rafael while playing guitar. Next twins Natalia and Natavia Greene danced and Shaan Prabhakar represented Khak Wednesday (follow this North Penn trend on twitter @Khakwednesday) wearing an all khak outfit while playing “The River Flows in You” and “You Found Me” on the piano.

After these acts, Dougherty and DiMuzio called out raffle ticket winners, who won gift cards to Wawa, Starbucks, and other places.

Continuing with the proformaces, Hayley Jordanna and Ian Mininger sang “Thunder” by Boys Like Girls and Mininger played guitar. Following them, Christina Baer sand “Gravity” by Sarah Barreilles and Billy Andrey sang “Remembering Sunday” by All Time Low, ending his performance by asking Maya Sweeny to Junior Prom for Paris Johnson.

To close out the first act, heavy metal band Blackwater preformed their original song “Secret Window.” Memebers Paul Berrios, Josh Dejesus, Ryan Templeton, Tim McCann, and Kirby Renninger jumped all over the stage as they shook up the audience with their performance.

Opening the second act, Eddie Kurek, Mike Lee, and Jake Seipt performed “Monkey Wrench” by The Foo Fighters, followed by A.M. Versa (Bryce Trent) rapping his original rap “Break Bread.” Next, Tj Sullivan danced an emotional contemporary number and Laura DeLongis sang “Travelin’ Soldier” by The Dixie Chicks while playing guitar. Sarah Stinson, Ali Corr, and Mitch Yetter sang “Breathe (2 AM)” by Anna Nalick next.

The second to last act was Da Illest Crew B-Boying. Members Anthony Le, Jae Park, Jay Lee, Yoon Ho Kim, Christine Yi, Jae Choi, and Thanh Huynh, who won last years talent show, displayed some crazy moves as they preformed on the stage.

To close out the show, Blase Porretti performed his One Man Band act, combining classic rock and rap elements.

Using a text-to-vote system, the audience voted who the winners would be. Coming in first place, Da Illest won a one hundred dollar gift card to Applebee’s. Second place, won Ryan Aragona,  received fifty-dollar gift cards to Applebee’s, and Laura Delongis won third place.

“My favorite part of performing in the talent show was all the energy from the crowd that hyped us up. Also, performing with my group members.”

A successful evening, the SGA raised more money to go towards the SGA fund to lower the cost of SGA run events, especially homecoming.

A night full of exceptional North Penn talent, the SGA talent show was a great evening that the performers will remember forever.
