College Review – University of Southern California

University of Southern California, home of the notorious Trojans, is by far one of the best universities in the U.S., especially when taking into consideration that this is not an Ivy League school. With more than 150 majors, students have a great opportunity to interact with people in many different fields and build their network through the university’s organizations and top notch faculty.

As you drive past security, you can feel the exhilarating, vivacious energy of the campus.
Although the massive size of the university might be intimidating at first, you quickly get used to
its size. Students walking by, talking and laughing as they go to their classes invites more
excitement to just be part of the university. Walking through the campus while trying to find the
Admission Center, I passed through a California Pizza Kitchen, one of the 22 on-campus dining
places USC has to offer, and the statue of Tommy Trojan, also known as the Trojan shrine.

While entering the admission center, I was overwhelmed by the size and the sophisticated architectural design of the building. The central-planned infrastructure and its hemispherical dome reminded me of a modern version of the Pantheon in Rome. Besides the design of the room, seeing students studying with their laptops, drinking Starbucks coffees, or sleeping made you want to join them and be part of the Trojan family. After waking up from the hypnotic state I was in, I found the Admissions office. As I waited for the tour to begin, I checked out the enormous amount of handouts and flyers they had around the office which was somewhat overwhelming. Yet, each one gave students knowledge of all the opportunities you could achieve if you attended USC. We were then led to a conference room and an alumni and admission counselor explained to us all the great features the university has to offer and explained the Trojans hiring Trojans database, which is a great opportunity they have recently integrated. It gives students the chance to be able to work with USC alumni and provide jobs and internships for students.
After answering everyone’s questions, the counselor introduced us to our tour guide. An amazing tour guide if I may add! If there is something that helps a university allure and captivate aspiring students is the way the tour guide presents the university and its many features. By far, my tour guide was the epitome of this. He excelled in demonstrating the greatness and positive elements of USC. He talked like a news anchor and barely stuttered throughout the entire tour, which is the least you can expect from a communication major student at USC. He then showed us some of the many schools USC offers, like the School of Cinematic Arts, where we were able to see all the authentic costumes for the movie The Avengers, and the School of Business, as well as many others.

Aside from seeing some of the schools, we were able to experience two of the many libraries at USC. They were out of this world. It was as if you were part of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I was almost expecting to see books flying around the room or students wearing long robes and eating chocolate frogs. Even if you don’t love to read, you would feel amazed at such
sight.

As if this impressive tour were not enough, our tour guide took us to the lobby of a building, where we were yet again appalled by the many trophies they had in display, which shows how competitive and successful their sports teams have been. After walking for more than two hours, our tour was coming to an end. But just as our tour guide directed us back towards the statue of Tommy Trojan, we started to hear USC’s marching band practicing. The sound of the music made you want to dress up in red and yellow and start cheering up for their football team. You could feel in the atmosphere the pride and spirit the students have towards their university.

In addition to all of the great things USC has to offer, there is something that makes it even better: the weather. For all of you who love getting tanned, going to the beach, and dislike wearing layers of clothes during the winter, this university is for you. There is nothing better than waking up to a warm and sunny day in Los Angeles to make your day better. Although USC is located on the opposite side of  the United States, it is a very impressive educational institution that is worth the travel.
