Odyssey of the Mind places first at world finals

LANSDALE –Congratulations to the North Penn High School Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) team as they placed first at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals at Iowa State University.

The NPHS students on this team include senior Alex Ives; juniors Robert Gaibler, Max Ives, Anthony Flores, Kevin Chen; and sophomore Madison Wiernusz. Steve Ives and Joanne Wiernusz coached the team.

The team competed in a technical problem against 47 other teams in the high school division, including teams from Poland, Singapore, Mexico, China, Germany, Canada, South Korea and the US. Their solution included technical elements involving the use of electro magnets, motors, led lights, chemical reactions and a team created theramin. The team used recycled items to make impressive props and costumes, scoring an almost perfect score in this category.

This group of students has been competing together since attending Bridle Path Elementary School, continuing through Penndale/Pennbrook middle schools and this was the team’s fifth consecutive year at World Finals. They are a source of great pride for North Penn High School and the North Penn School District.
