Samrin Akther: President

Why are you running for this position?

“I’m running for president because I want to be a strong voice for all sophomores. I plan to make North Penn High School a safe space for its students and ensure that each and every student feels included and heard. As someone who hasn’t always known how to use their voice, I know what it’s like to feel as though you don’t belong, or that your voice doesn’t matter. I’ve learned how to speak up for myself and what I believe in, and I want to be the voice of those who still feel as though they aren’t heard. I want every student out there who feels like this to know that if I am elected, I would make sure that each student knows that they have a place in this community.”

What qualities do you have that make you the best candidate?

“I could answer this question by telling you all the clubs I’m in, how I take honors/AP classes, and about my leadership skills, but I genuinely don’t think those are the qualities that make me the best candidate. While those do add to the list, the qualities that I have that actually make me the best candidate for president are that I’m open-minded, empathetic, and I believe that leadership is not within one person, but within an entire group, whose ideas are all presented by those who we elect as our leaders. I’m able to communicate with my peers comfortably, and I know that, as president, the decisions I make will affect every sophomore at North Penn. With that in mind, every decision that I put forward will always first and foremost be in the best interest of the student body. These decisions will not only be made by me but by the combined interest of all sophomores and cabinet members/officers. Through all of this, what most importantly makes me the best candidate is not the things I have done, but rather the person that I have grown to be and my promise for the future of our class.”

What is one main goal you have for the 2020-2021 school year?

“One main goal I have for the 2020-2021 school year is to try and incorporate as many (safe and socially distanced) events as possible so that we can still have an enjoyable and memorable year, despite the conditions with Covid-19 and all. Although it might be difficult, I am determined to make sure that us sophomores still have the best first year of high school that we possibly can.”
