TALENT SHOW- Senior Anastasia Dzeikan took first prize with her magic show, where she read the mind of Olivia Follis.

TOWAMENCIN- It was a magical night on March 16th, at the North Penn annual Talent Show hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA), when senior Anastasia Dzeikan took first prize with her magic show. The Talent Show is an opportunity for students of North Penn to showcase their talents in front of  students, friends, and family. The night was full of amazing voices, a dance, music, and even magic.

Weeks before the talent show, students had to audition their acts in the hopes of getting chosen to perform.

“Around 30 people/groups auditioned this year, and they go through auditions with the student government cabinet. The cabinet grades each act on originality, crowd appeal, stage presence, and talent. This year we picked 14 acts,” explained SGA president, Anissa Gardizy.

The emcees of the night were seniors Maura Slater and Andrew Bozzelli. Between each performance they kept the audience entertained with skits and talents of their own.

Each act had 7 performances, ranging from 1-4 performers in each one. Between Acts I and II, there was a brief intermission where audience members could see if they won any door prize items. There were hundreds of dollars in prizes, including gift cards, baskets, senior prom tickets, junior prom tickets, Khalid tickets, Dr. Bauer’s parking spot, and more.

After all 14 performances, including the band Rita Maine performing “Snow”, Sharon Chen and Andrew Ramirez playing “My Foolish Heart”, and Quira Crosby singing “Unbreakable Smile”, the audience had the opportunity to use their phones to vote for their favorite act.

“We had faculty judges in the balcony that judge the acts during the show, and then that is combined with the audience votes to determine the winners,” said Anissa Gardizy.

In third place was Jenna Little and Frank Yanni, who sang “Best Part”.  Senior Deja Hoes was the runner up, who sang “Fly Before you Fall”. Dziekan won first place with her magic act.

“I feel amazing, more excited than I have felt in a long time. This is my third year doing the talent show and I didn’t even place before today,” Dzeikan said with a smile.

The students who perform in the talent show do it because that is what they love to do, making the talent show a great tradition at North Penn.

“I did the talent show because I really find an adrenaline rush in performing. It was great,”  said senior Kieran Bates, who performed an acoustic version of “Jasey Rae” by All Time Low.
