From the World of John Wick: Ballerina – June 6

The John Wick franchise will see its first spin-off with Ballerina. The film, which takes place between John Wick Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, will follow a ballerina-assassin as she seeks revenge for the death of her father. Ana De Armas is set to play Eve, the ballerina, and she will be joined by a star-studded cast including Keanu Reeves, Gabriel Byrne

Norman Reedus, Lance Reddick, and more.

More John Wick spin-offs are currently in development, which means, for some fans, Ballerina will serve as an indicator of the quality of the future spin-offs.

How To Train Your Dragon – June 13

Just 15 years after the release of the original animated movie, How To Train Your Dragon is already getting a live action remake. The movie follows a young Viking, Hiccup, as he befriends a dragon in a community where Vikings and dragons are enemies.

The movie has been the subject of controversy, with audiences criticizing everything from the casting, to the CGI, to the existence of the movie in an era where live action remakes are a dime a dozen. The cast is made up of mostly young actors, with Mason Thames as the lead, and Nico Parker, Julian Dennison, Bronwyn James, Gabriel Howell, and Harry Trevaldwyn in supporting roles. Nick Frost and Gerard Butler will also star in How To Train Your Dragon

The Materialist – June 13

A24’s The Materialist has been highly anticipated since its announcement. The Materialists, which has been described as a romantic comedy, will follow a New York City-based matchmaker who finds herself having to choose between her flawed ex-boyfriend and a seemingly perfect new guy.

The star-studded cast, consisting of Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans, has brought this movie lots of attention. The cast, along with the legacy of A24, has put The Materialist at the top of many moviegoers’ watchlists.

Elio – June 20

After a year-long delay, Disney is finally releasing their original movie Elio this summer. Elio was originally set to come out in March 2024, but SAG-AFTRA strikes caused a necessary pause in the film’s release.

Elio follows a young boy who gets mistaken for Earth’s ambassador in an interplanetary organization. The young boy must navigate his role as a representative of Earth, while also exploring who he is meant to be. The main cast is relatively small, but it includes big names such as Zoe Saldaña, Jameela Jamil, along with Brad Garrett and Yonas Kibreab.

28 Years Later – June 20

The past few years have been exciting for fans of post-apocalyptic media, and the release of 28 Years Later will only add to that excitement. 28 Years Later will be the third installment in the 28 Days Later film series. The series kicked off all the way back in 2002 with Cillian Murphy in the lead role.

The new movie will follow a group of survivors on an island as they navigate new mutations and situations caused by the zombie virus. The original directors and writers will return, but the cast will be entirely new. Jack O’Connell, Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Jodie Comer are just some of the big names attached to 28 Years Later

M3GAN 2.0 – June 27

When M3GAN first hit theatres in 2023, there was a mixed reaction. Out of nowhere, audiences were given a somewhat campy movie about a robot companion for children, who turns into a brutal killer. Despite the initial confusion about the seemingly random movie, M3GAN was met with mostly good reviews. Good enough to earn it a sequel.

M3GAN 2.0 will follow the recently resurrected M3GAN robot, who has been brought back to aid in the fight against Amelia, a M3GAN-like robot built by the military. Like M3GAN in the first movie, the new Amelia robot has gone rogue, and needs to be stopped. The original cast consisting of Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, and Amie Donald will return, with newcomer Ivanna Sakhno playing Amelia.

Jurassic World: Rebirth – July 2

Jurassic World: Rebirth will be the seventh installment in the Jurassic Park movie franchise. The story takes place five years after the last movie, Jurassic World: Dominion, which came out in 2022. Rebirth will follow a group of skilled operatives as they explore a former research facility for Jurassic Park. The team’s goal is to recover old dinosaur DNA, which could be used to benefit mankind.

Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali will star, with the possibility of a cameo from some of the original Jurassic Park cast.

Superman – July 11

Fans were rightfully skeptical when it was announced that the DC cinematic universe would be rebooted and placed in the hands of director James Gunn. However, this skepticism turned into excitement once the first trailer for Superman was released.

The film will follow Superman, played by David Corenswet, as he balances his life on Earth with his alien heritage. All the classic Superman characters, such as Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and Lex Luthor will make an appearance. More obscure characters from the comics will also be making their first on-screen appearance. Namely Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific, and Green Lantern will make their debut in Superman.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps – July 25

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be the latest installment in the Marvel cinematic universe. Despite the inconsistent quality of this decade’s Marvel movies, fans are still excited to see what the studio has in store for the latest rendition of “Marvel’s First Family”. The cast is loaded, with Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach playing Mr. Fantastic, The Human Torch, The Invisible Woman, and The Thing. The movie will also introduce two long-awaited characters, The Silver Surfer and Galactus. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is expected to have a large impact on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the excitement for the movie grows everyday.
