Fish and chips, ancient palaces, and British theatre are not typical elements of one’s first year of college. Class of 2019 alum Shannan Wenzel’s first year has been anything but typical.

Studying at Arcadia University, Wenzel applied for the study abroad program after she was accepted into Arcadia last year. As a biology major, she is currently enjoying the opportunity to spend the second semester of her freshman year in London.

“When you get accepted to Arcadia you can be asked to apply for FYSAE(First Year Study Abroad). This was the only one I could do as I am a biology major. So now I am apart of Arcadia College of Global Studies and I take classes at the Arcadia London center.”

“I am apart of the FYSAE (first year study abroad) program. When you get accepted to Arcadia you can be asked to apply for FYSAE. I had to fill out another application and do an interview to be accepted. I was accepted to the London spring 2020 program. This was the only one I could do as I am a biology major. So now I am apart of Arcadia College of Global Studies and I take classes at the Arcadia London center,” Wenzel said.

Here at North Penn High School, Wenzel was heavily involved in NPHS Theatre/Thespians. In her senior year, she was one of the BC/EFA Co-Coordinators for Thespian Troupe #5464. During her three years, Wenzel was in the casts of Fiddler on the Roof, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Mamma Mia and a part of crew for 1776 and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Besides theatre, Wenzel was in band her sophomore year and went on the Hawaii trip. All three years she was apart of the NPHS chorus. Junior year, she joined the Green Room Club and National Honor Society.

Favorite parts of college?

I love everything about it! It’s so nice to have so much freedom and get to choose classes that interest you (as long as they fit requirements).

What do you miss about North Penn?

I miss getting to see my friends everyday and going to rehearsal at night with my friends.

Advice for high schoolers?

Be your self! In high school it is hard but honestly you will meet some of your best friends if you just open up and be your self also take time for your self because it can get stressful between clubs practice/ rehearsals and home work.
