Let’s admit, the first days of school can be socially awkward, epically if you raremiles away from home on a new college campus, not knowing a single person, but no worries because Coke-Cola came up with that solution. Leo Burnett in Colombia ad agency invented the latest clever idea to reduce social awkwardness on the first day on a new campus.
Burnett created a new design for the Coke Cola bottle with a cap that can only be opened when fit together with another bottle’s cap and twisted. This new invention is the perfect way to break the ice with someone. The first year at college can be a nerve-wracking experience, and the “friendship twist” campaign forces freshman off their phones to have human interaction with someone new.
Since 1886, Coke-Cola had captivated us with their cool slogans and advertising campaigns; now almost 130 years later they had done it again. Not only are new friendships being created, but the company is selling twice the amount of soda. The advice to all future college freshman: “open a coke, open a new friendship.”
