MONTGOMERYVILLE – On a chilly January day many Montgomery county families took refuge at the Montgomery Mall for a fun-filled day at the 2013 Winter Blast. The Winter Blast was run by the North Penn Recreation Consortium, which is comprised of members from various townships and boroughs in the North Penn Area. It took place at the Sears’ Court, Macy’s Court, and Elevator Court State from 11am to 4pm on Saturday, January 26th.

The day was full of fun and free events from Irish dancing to face painting and various types of crafting. North Penn’s very own Junior ROTC members dedicated their time to helping out at the craft stations in the Sears’ Court

Col. Todd Zachary explained that the “JROTC volunteers in various community events” and that they complete “about 2000 hours a year” as part of their curriculum.

Senior Arpan Patel explained that he enjoys volunteering with the JROTC because it allows members to “give back to the community and make our relationship with community stronger.” Col. Zachary agreed saying that “giving back to the community is important and that’s why we stress it so much.”

All in all the Winter Blast was indeed a blast for all attendees thanks to the help of the JROTC.
