“Caring… Our way of life”-Understanding the importance of community involvement and volunteer work, Key Club proves to benefit many North Penn High School students.

In addition to the plethora of clubs regarding sports, theater, arts, etc., NPHS offers a club that proves its uniqueness: Key Club. It’s important for students to acknowledge that Key Club could be beneficial to their future. In many high schools all over the country, Key Club is a student led program that many students want to be involved in. This club is known for advocating student involvement in their community and establishing students’ leadership qualities.

Students join Key Club because of the fun and exhilarating environment.

I wanted to join Key Club to connect with my friends and with the different events that they host. The club is very fun, and there is a lot of energetic people ready to aid the community,” explained Maiya Cook, member of the Key Club.

The club also helps individuals voice their opinion as well as help the public. Students feel that there is power in numbers, and it helps them reach out to bigger organizations. Every year there are at least 200 people who join the Key Club. The club is also a place where students can positively influence the community, while connecting with friends and meeting new people. Most students that join Key Club say that it is beneficial to their academic studies. Not only that, but since it is a well-respected club for colleges, it could help students with their resumes.

Within the club, students carry out numerous activities to help the community. For instance, the Key Club has been known for their volunteer work at fundraisers, elementary schools, and The Boys and Girls Club. At other times, the club helps organize high school sports games or theater productions, clean up parks, and arrange food drives.

By executing such activities, students feel that Key Club cultivates an atmosphere that welcomes friendships and making new bonds.

“My favorite thing about Key Club [is] how the environment is, and many club members should take pride in it,” stated Cook.

While Key Club proves to illustrate endless advantages, one must recognize the hard work and time one must put into the club. The hours that most students work in Key Club averages to about 75 hours for the entire year; however, the requirement is easily attained with dedication. To be inducted into Key Club, students should have at least 20 hours of documented community service by January.

Key Club proves to benefit many North Penn High School students, as they learn the importance of community involvement and volunteer work.
