North Penn’s Academic Decathlon club has embarked on this journey, where they will find out what separates the alpha from the rest of the pack.
The club’s competitive aspect is proving to be a driving force of academic and collaborative success, uniting and giving opportunities to every student’s abilities and strengths.
“We go out to schools and other locations to do competitions. We focus on seven subjects, math, science, social science, economics, art, music, and literature,” – Academic Decathlon Club President, Ashmit Handoo explained.
Competitions aren’t just for overachieving flawless students, they provide opportunities for all interested students to improve not only their academic knowledge but also their leadership and communication skills.
The tournaments are well balanced among the students, making sure everyone gets a fair and equal chance to compete against other competitors on the same level.
“Academic Decathlon is a team-based academic competition that challenges students across various subjects. Teams typically consist of nine students, divided into three categories based on GPA: Honors (3.75-4.00), Scholastic (3.00-3.74), and Varsity (below 3.00).” – Club Advisor Elizabeth Weissman said.
The club’s main goal for every meeting is to be as productive as possible. Meetings are held every Monday from 2:30 to 3:30, and they will provide essential details, highlight upcoming events, and give out quizzes and reviews in preparation for competitions.
