Hi there,
I am a breast cancer survivor (will be 3 years in February) and I would like to thank you for supporting folks like myself by hosting events like this to raise awareness.
My boys were students at NPHS during my diagnosis/treatment/recovery and my daughter is currently a student at the high school. The counselors were fantastic and we felt supported every step of the way. This group is one more way to help students who have people in their lives affected by cancer.
I would like to put a plug in for all women’s cancers (uterine, cervical, Fallopian tube) because these cancers do not get the “press” that breast cancer receives. I was able to receive a targeted drug to fight my cancer along with traditional chemotherapy which I attribute to the success of my treatment and my survival. I would love to see as much research done on other types of cancers as well and I believe this begins with awareness. I am BRCA1+ which increases the risk not only of breast cancer but also of Fallopian tube and ovarian cancers as well.
Again, thanks for all you are doing and please consider doing awareness events for other cancers as that is what helps to drive funding and research.
Peace to you,
Karen Strobel
