TOWAMENCIN- Today marks the start of inclusive spirit week at North Penn High School. Each day this week is a different spirit day:

  • December 3rd (Monday): Wear your NP gear
  • December 4th (Tuesday): Rock your Tie Dye
  • December 5th (Wednesday): Wear your wacky socks
  • December 6th (Thursday): Wear your Bright Colors
  • December 7th (Friday): Wear PJs all day

North Penn has been noticed nationwide for their special Olympic athletics and inclusiveness and was recently given a banner for being a Unified School. In 2017, the Unified Track Team was started by speech therapist Kerry Byrnes, special education teacher Megan Schoppe, and sophomore class advisor and inclusion facilitator Megan Jermain. The Unified Track Team had great success, which led to the creation of a Unified Bocce Team.

The Bocce Team started in winter of 2018 after receiving a grant from the North Penn Education Foundation. Although they lost their first two matches, the team had great success from there and won the rest of their games, including the gold medal game. On March 23rd, Unified Bocce at North Penn won the state championship.

Because of the great success of the Unified Teams and inclusion efforts at North Penn, they were urged to apply to become recognized as a Unified School. Only 90 schools from the whole nation received this award and North Penn was one of them. To celebrate this achievement, a pep rally was held on November 19th where North Penn received a banner. Upcoming inclusive events include the polar bear plunge and start of the Unified Bocce Team’s season on January 15th.  In order to continue North Penn’s inclusive spirit, participate in spirit week and get involved!
