PA Farm Show: Senior Julia Szymanski Blooms into Best in Show

PA Farm Show: Senior Julia Szymanski Blooms into Best in Show

On Wednesday January 9th, the Annual Pennsylvania Farm Show was held in Harrisburg, PA as part of a weeklong event. The Farm Show is an annual event in which the best in Pennsylvanian agriculture and horticulture are displayed. There are various events ranging from butter sculpture contests to the best apple pie contest. In the floral design competition over fifteen different schools were entered, and North Penn’s very own Julia Szymanski won Best in Show for her floral design.

Julia has been working on floral design for about four years and first entered into this competition last year and came in third place for her silk flower mug arrangement. This year’s contestants had one week to create a flower arrangement of their own choice, but she was able to finish her arrangement in just two days.

Floral design allows Szymanski to express her “artistic” side as she makes arrangements to fit various themes and different materials.

“I like working with fresh flowers the most,” she said, “but I enjoy working with silk as well.”

In the future, Julia plans on working for a flower company when she graduates.
