Alex’s Lemonade Stand Offering Student Leadership Academy

Alexs Lemonade Stand Offering Student Leadership Academy

WYNNEWOOD, PA  – Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALSF), in partnership with Learning to Lead, Inc., is proud to announce the return of the Foundation’s Student Leadership Academy for rising high school juniors and seniors. The event invites students to attend a four day, three night leadership development program from July 30-August 2, 2012 at Villanova University. The program aims to equip students with training and experience to bring the story and mission of ALSF back into their schools and communities while fostering leadership skills to implement their goals and dreams, just as Alex did.

The ALSF Leadership Academy will offer hands-on activities including classroom sessions and workshops designed to create awareness of what leadership is, how to use it and how it can help students attain their goals. The interactive program will admit 60 participants, and students from all corners of the United States are encouraged to apply. Dormitory lodging and meals will be provided at the University as part of this leadership experience, though students will be required to arrange their own travel to and from Philadelphia.

In 2012, the Leadership Academy will focus on the mission and goals of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to provide a better understanding of the Foundation’s vision and provide participants with key leadership skills to help them serve as youth spokespeople within their communities.

“Dating back to Alex’s very first front yard lemonade stand, we have always had a keen understanding of the impact that kids can make on their community and the power they have to make a difference in the lives of others,” says Liz Scott, Alex’s mom. “As part of continuing what Alex started at that front yard stand, we are pleased to foster leadership in these promising young people and provide them with the tools to take Alex’s mission of finding cures for all kids with cancer back to the communities in which they dwell.

The Learning to Lead staff has been teaching leadership skills for over five decades.  The staff includes experts from a wide variety of backgrounds including secondary education, higher education, athletic leadership, and in corporations.

About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $50 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 200 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
