TOWAMENCIN -North Penn drew a 1v1 stroke in the last seconds of their field hockey game today, and wisely chose Laura Albert to take the final shot. The choice proved to be the right one.
The girls defeated Council Rock North, 4-3 in an intense crossover game. The Knights improved their record to 6-2.
“We knew that they were going to be a good team. They had success and we also had success so it was important to come out strong,” Mccracken stated.
With one minute left on the clock, the Knights were able to draw a 1v1 stroke opportunity to win the game. And Albert did what she has been doing most of the young season so far.
“She’s a strong player for us, she’s a leader, she loves to compete, she loves to win. When you have a player like that you can put her in scenarios like taking the penalty stroke at the end of the game, and you know she’s gonna execute,” Mccracken said.
And that is exactly what Laura did, making the score 4-3 with just seconds left on the clock.
The game started slow with neither team scoring until Albert sank a goal for the Knights with 20 seconds left in the 2nd quarter.
“I didn’t think we really came out too strong in the first half,” Mccracken said.
However, Paige Shearer turned it around in the 3rd quarter scoring the 2nd goal for North Penn, pushing the score to 2-0. The game seemed out of reach for Council Rock, however they were able to secure 3 goals in just 6 minutes in the fourth quarter. North Penn was down 3-2 with just 7 minutes left to work with.
“Once they got the goals back, I felt like we needed it, we needed to execute.” Albert stated.
With the acknowledgment of being down 3-2 with little time left on the clock, Albert was able to dig deep and score the final 2 goals of the game allowing the Knights to secure the win.
The Knights are rolling along winning 4 straight. With hopes of placing top in their division and making a deep run in playoffs.
“Everyday we try to build, you know, we try to improve everyday,” Mccracken added.
The Knights take on Lower Moreland away on Wednesday at 3:30.
